iNSchool is a province-wide program aimed at leveraging technology to better support student achievement. iNSchool is being led by our province’s eight school boards and the Department of Education.
iNSchool includes the introduction of:
iNSchool is being implemented gradually over three years. It began in September 2010 with the implementation of PowerSchool in 80 schools. PowerSchool is the system our province has selected to manage core student information.
In the winter 2011, 14 additional schools transitioned to the province’s new web-based information management system. And in September 2011, 194 more schools across Nova Scotia started using this common system. The remaining 130 schools will start between December 2011 and September 2012.
Once in place, iNSchool will contribute to several key functions - such as curriculum and program development, student assessment, and school accreditation and improvement programs - with access to real-time information on our students, schools and programs.
Everyone will benefit – students, parents, teachers, school administrators and assistants, school boards, and the Department of Education.
Students will benefit from stronger programs and policies, parents from increased access to information about their children, and teachers and school administrators will have better information about their students and schools. School boards and the Department of Education will benefit by having access to a wider range of student and program data for program and policy decisions.
iNSchool will have a significant impact on Nova Scotia's public school system. It will enable parents to be more engaged in their children's education, and lead to a more responsive education system.
